Joy Neumeyer is a writer and historian of Russia. From 2010 to 2014, she worked as a journalist in Moscow, covering subjects including art, food, funerals, gay cruising, and pigeons. She is currently a PhD candidate in History at the University of California, Berkeley, where she is completing a dissertation on late Soviet culture. Her writing has appeared in publications including Vice, ARTNews, the Guardian, Tablet Magazine, The Moscow Times, The Calvert Journal, Russian Life, and other outlets.
